My love of the mountains was kindled when studying geological sciences as a student where I travelled around Europe on field trips gaining a love of spending time in the outdoors. From the Troodos mountains in Cyprus to the Catalan Pyrenees I was lucky enough to spend significant time in the outdoors which triggered a lifetime of trips.
Once I began working in schools I started taking young people into the outdoors, initially supporting on trips in the Lake District and Pennines. I gained my Mountain Leader (Summer) qualification in 2009 and consistently lead trips using this qualification throughout my teaching career.
In school I quickly became a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award co-ordinator and then Head of Upper School Expeditions, arranging a myriad of trips, regularly going to Scotland, Wales and other parts of the UK. Additionally I organised trips abroad, including to the Dolomites in Italy.
Since 2021 I have worked as a freelance mountain leader and DofE supervisor/assessor. I work directly with schools and a number of AAPs to support young people in challenging themselves. I hold a 16-hour first aid certificate and DBS on the update service, as well as having extensive experience in supporting young people inside and outside of schools.
